First, you need to know that this recipe guarantees success, as it has been used for centuries for the same purpose: cough suppression.
Now, let’s look at the ingredients, the preparation method and how it should be used.
- 250ml of water (filtered)
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
And ¼ cup of each of these:
- Chamomile flower
- Marshmallow root
- Lemon juice
- Ginger root (either dried or fresh but grated)
First, pour the filtered water into a saucepan. Second, add all of the mentioned herbs and boil them. After a while, reduce the heat and leave the mixture simmer. When the half of the water evaporates, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Strain it using a regular strainer or a clean cloth and while the mixture is lukewarm, add the honey, mix, then add the lemon. Stir everything very well and store it in an air-tight container. This cough suppression remedy can stay in the fridge up to two months.
How to consume it:
You should use one tablespoon three times a day. If your child is the one with the cough, give them one teaspoon per day. This syrup is perfectly safe for children, but of course, the dosage is smaller.
Another useful tip: if your or your child’s cough is dry, you can add one teaspoon of mint leaves, into the syrup. Mint is great in the treatment of dry coughs.
