Parsley is a natural diuretic

A study showed that “parsley acts as a diuretic by inhibiting sodium and potassium ion pumps, which influence the osmosis process and increase the flow of urine.”

Parsley is also rich in potassium and that is why most of the chemically produced diuretics lower the body’s potassium levels. Parsley also ensures that you will not experience this common side effect of these drugs.

Another study titled “hypotensive and diuretic activity of the aqueous extract of parsley seeds” showed similar results for parsley. It suggests that parsley can not only increase the flow of urine but also lower blood pressure.

Parsley tea recipe for severe swelling in legs

You should drink at least two liters of parsley tea a day to achieve the best result.

If you feel the need, you can increase the amount of parsley tea to one cup every hour. When making your tea, however, it also suggests using “fresh, light green leaves” along with roots and seeds, if available.


You should chop the leaves into small pieces, as well as the roots. You can also pre-chop the parsley and store it in a sealed glass container. It can stay in the refrigerator for one week max.

  • Place about 1/4 cup parsley in an infusion basket.
  • Pour a cup of boiled water or soak it in a cup of tea.

  • Remove the basket or strain the tea.
  • Add honey, lemon or ginger, if you want some special flavor.
