6 Habits That Cause a Yeast Infection in Women

Yeast infection in women is more common than we might think. For this reason it is necessary to take certain measures and abandon certain habits.

Does candidiasis sound familiar? And the yeast? Vaginitis, maybe? Women are usually very exposed to yeast infections for that reason it is necessary to discover what habits we must change to prevent them.

Yeast infections can be very annoying. Sometimes, they can be punctual, but if they recur with relative frequency, then there is something that we have to change in our lives.

Reasons why a yeast infection in women appears

1. Wearing lycra underwear

Surely if you check your underwear drawer you will find some lycra. It is a very comfortable fabric that stretches and adapts in a pleasant way to your skin.

However, the problem with this fabric is that it does not allow the vagina to breathe and does not absorb moisture. If you have problems with yeast infection try replacing lycra underwear with cotton.

Cotton is a very friendly fabric with our skin. It allows the vagina to breathe and decreases the chance of getting a fungal infection.

2. Incorrect habits when we go to the bathroom

This is often repeated a lot, but sometimes we forget to carry it out. And is that every time we go to the bathroom, if we clean from back to front we will be favoring an infection to appear.

You cause the bacteria from the rectum to go to the vagina causing, in one way or another, a yeast infection.

3. An excess of hygiene

Yes, it is true. Too much hygiene can make us more susceptible to contracting a yeast infection. The problem lies in the frequency and, also, in the methods used.

Vaginal douches: alter the vaginal flora causing irritation. They can cause inflammation, vaginal dryness, bacterial vaginosis and expose us to STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections).

Wet wipes: can cause irritation and leave the area wet. If we add to this the use of lycra underwear, it is an exceptional breeding ground for infections.

Deodorants and sprays for the intimate area: they can cause allergic reactions, irritation and infections although they are apt for that area their strong fragrance can affect the health of the vagina.

Soaps disrespectful: soaps for the intimate area should be soft, but we should not abuse them either. Washing the area once a day (two as much) should be enough.
Excesses are never good, so greater hygiene does not mean we are doing better.

4. Beware of panty liners

Many women use panty liners every day. However, it is only advisable to use them when we have an abundant flow or in the last days of menstruation.

Although panty liners are breathable, it is not good to always use them. Besides the fact that the vagina needs to breathe, the panty liners have perfumes, they are synthetic and can cause itching.

It is better to change underwear as much as we need, before resorting to panty liners as a measure of daily protection.

5. Tight clothing is not good ally

Tight clothing such as tight jeans or leggings are not good allies for the intimate area. The problem is that this type of garments increase the body temperature of the area and humidity.

For this reason, it is better to use these garments in a timely manner and to opt, in most cases, for others that are a little more loose.

6. Not urinating after having sex

Contracting cystitis after having sex is a common case. This can be avoided, or at least prevented, if you urinate after sex.

The reason why a yeast infection in women appears after a sexual intercourse is due to friction, secretions and, above all, anal sex. We have to be very careful if we have anal sex and then vaginal sex. Well, the bacteria in the rectum will pass into the vagina.
