Dandruff is the most common problem of the scalp. Itching is the first symptom we notice, in addition to white scales that annoyingly cloud the beauty of our hair.
What can we do? How do you get rid of dandruff? Most of us to the first thing we resort to is the “anti-dandruff” treatments, those shampoos that, in the long term, dry our hair, so much. Has it happened to you too?
Surely yes. Now … What causes its appearance? What tips can we follow at home to combat dandruff? We are sure that this information will be useful for you.
A study was carried out by a group of scientists from the well-known firm Head and Shoulders.
The purpose was to find out what were the causes of the appearance of dandruff. The results were the following:
– Oxidative stress
90% of the population has dandruff or itching due to stress. This data undoubtedly surprises us. We could say that practically all of us suffer temporary episodes of stress.
The cause of this is almost always oxidative stress. Now … What do we mean by this term? It’s easy to understand:
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance in some part of our body that is not able to cope with the free radicals that attack our tissues, in this case, the scalp.
The stress of the scalp is caused by a fungus, the Malassezia globossa. You should not be scared if we tell you that we all have this microorganism because, in reality, it is something natural.
Breaking down the fats in the hair and in turn producing a dermo-irritating agent called oleic acid is what this fungus does, better known as “sebum”. It is a compound to which some people have an allergy.
Certain things can alter the normal behavior of this fungus, and these are: heat, sweat and pollution.
According to these experts in dermatology, people take care of their hair but we often forget the scalp, that is, the skin of the head. It is the most important part, since it is what nourishes and strengthens hair.
It is important to tone, massage, and treat it while nurturing properly.
The sensitivity of your skin
About 50% of the population has skin sensitive to oleic acid, that is, that fat that breaks down the fungus Malassezia globossa. If you are sensitive, dandruff will appear, and according to the study, 50% of the population has dandruff.
Your skin can get sensitive suddenly, and that is something that seems strange to some people. Sometimes, simple hormonal changes can cause this sudden reaction in our scalp.
At this point you may wonder if stress can cause the appearance of dandruff. The experts tell us that it is not 100% determinant, but in case of suffering anxiety and stress states very prolonged in time, the internal and metabolic alteration of our organism affects without doubt the health of our hair.
To conclude, the causes of the appearance of dandruff are the following:
- The alteration of the fungus due to sweat, pollution and heat.
- The sensitivity of our skin.
- Hormonal changes.
- States of stress and anxiety very extensive.
